yes! the pilings you see are relics of a once vast support system for Float Bridges that lined the west side shoreline roughly 100 years ago. They were owned by the New York Central Railroad company. The float bridges that once lined the Port of New York were designed to transfer freight cars from waterside rail yards to barges called car floats, on which they were taken out to ships or to rail lines in New Jersey that connected with the rest of the country. Only 1 of them remains intact today on riverside drive, its called float bridge No 4. or the 69th street transfer bridge.
thanks Raaj! seeing these structures in person is also quite striking. I have some more shots to this series in b+w but Im also doing a version in color, regular exposure.
Just a beautiful selection of textures, shades, layers, shadows and there’s some sort of volumous nature that I can’t quite explain. Regardless…beautifully addicting. I love it.
Gorgeous.
thanks Shannon!
Haunting and cool — lovely photo.
thank you Mikalee!
Haunting…
And very cool!
Beautiful photo. I always want to know where photos were taken. I take from the tags that this is Riverside Drive in NYC.

Thanks! I’ll check that out on GoogleEarth. So is the No 4 bridge the “Feelin’ Groovy” Bridge?
Lovely and lonely. Congrats on FP.
Kathy
Very nice!
Really nice – can you tell us more about the exposure, filters etc?
thanks!
I used a 6 stop ND filter @ f22 for about a one minute exposure time. film was tmax 100 in tmax developer.
